How do I begin to describe this absolutely stunning feat that you have accomplished? Architecture for Ahmedabad, made out of light.... in fact bouncing light that illuminates the way to another future. Congratulations! And donât forget to share this jewel with others.â These are the words of legendary architect Charles Correa who stopped by the home of architect couple Khushnu and Sönke Hoof in Ahmedabad.
Khushnu, the granddaughter of architect B. V. Doshi, and her husband have transformed two adjoining row-houses in Ahmedabad into a singular whole. Re-interpreting the typology of the traditional Pol house, the renovated home is now abundant with light, fresh air and glimpses of green, coupled with a feeling of discovery that the young couple enjoy every day.
The Waterhouse hotel in Shanghai is a consummate blend of history and culture with modern hospitality. Once the headquarters of the Japanese army this 1930âs brutalist structure perfectly juxtaposes its past with the present. The Waterhouse is a tribute to its lineage and showcases its historical past alongside its contemporary interiors that speaks of a newfound elegance.
Daniel Libeskind is known for his radical approach towards design. The Creative Media Centre in Hong Kong is a dramatic vision of sporadic angles and asymmetry in its most extreme definition. Considering the building houses the Universityâs new-media, film, design, photography and related programs, it was the design teamâs aim for this structure to be symbolic of the creative process and reflect the push-and-pull of ideas that drive forward creativity.
For those keen to try something a little different this New Year, a visit to the MeatLiquor restaurant in London is sure to do it. Here the interior designer Shed has experimented with his sinister side and created a space that is in your face profane, with blood red graphics and bold illustrations as wall art. The ânew beastâ as Shed calls MeatLiquor is about dining and not about the ambience; giving you an extreme and almost hallucinogenic visual experience. Welcome to your dark side!
