Gurjit Singh Matharoo, principal architect for the Shantam House, delivers on a unique challenge of creating a multi-program house that caters to a duality of function. The home thoughtfully blends private spaces with others designed to double up as business zones - in a style that balances refined luxury with areas that closely resemble homely Indian spaces.
The team at _Opolis Architects are at it again with a retreat that is nestled in the bounty of nature. Entwined with plenty of trees, the architect duo defines a structure that maintains a seamless dialogue with nature. The designers accentuate interwoven spaces with skylights, water bodies and courtyards to create an inimitable summer home in Bhavnagar, a dream come true sheltered in the shade of a lovely orchard.
Architect Girish Dariyav Karnawat believes in 'appropriate cost architecture' and his dedicated approach to seeing a project through is exactly that - he actually relocates himself to the construction site after the design phase till he sees the keys handed over to the client! Girish's idea of 'appropriate cost architecture' is based on how design with innovation and experimentation can be moulded to cut down costs. A tribute to his ideology is the 'Mobius House' - a single storey house on a long linear site in a typical Goan village where the design is totally governed by its context and the interpretation of the client's brief.
