Calem Grove in Candolim, Goa is set in a coconut grove surrounded by paddy fields on three sides looking towards the 350 year old Candolim Church. The project consists of six private plotted villas, each with a built up area of 4000 Sq.Ft. as part of a single 1.25 acre complex, along with a 2 bedroom Annexe. The idea behind the project was to develop independent villas in a warm contemporary style as a counterpoint to the surroundings.
Each villa is composed of three elements – a base block at the ground level clad with grey granite, an open staircase and a well-lit glass living space with an earth toned upper story spanning across the two.
Each villa is accessed by a landscape court featuring a small garden and a water body with separate access for service and staff.
The main body is broken into two masses with an open concrete staircase linking the two, above which the rain screen clad rectangular mass floats across. This creates a series of interior and exterior spaces which flow seamlessly into one another at the same time affording privacy and protection from the elements. The beautiful outdoor shower courtyards are a unique feature attached to every bedroom.
