Switzerland brings to mind snowy mountains and rolling Alpine meadows. But there is a whole side of Switzerland beyond the picture-perfect natural landscapes: its cities! Zurich is Switzerland’s urbs-prima and often (incorrectly) thought to be its capital.
Lying by the banks of the Zurichsee Lake, the city is a blend of the old and the new: there are medieval quarters with charming winding streets, which look specially magical when decked up for Christmas.
And there is a vibrant local design community that has given Zurich some iconic products – such as Freitag bags which are made from recycled truck tyres, seatbelts and tarpaulins.
Housed in a structure made of shipping containers, its store is a part of a former industrial neighbourhood that has been revitalised into a buzzing arts and entertainment district.
