Architecture and design was not something that I always thought about. I grew up in an environment of construction. My father would take up turnkey interior contracts and a lot of work would happen around me. I would occasionally accompany him on his sites and observe. Gradually, the structures of buildings, composition of raw materials, drilling, hammering, movements of workers and other noisy activities started energizing me. I started trying it, listening to it. The transformation of a construction site into a pleasing environment with beautiful forms, colours and textures started giving me an adrenaline rush.
It was in the year 2000 that I enrolled into the School of Architecture APIED, Vallabh Vidyanagar, and later pursued a course in Furniture and Interior Design from NID. Swiftly the scale of my creations broadened from designing buildings to shaping interior spaces and making furniture.

Activity Building
The building includes a 5000 sq-ft. community hall, exhibition areas, gaming zones and other supporting amenities.
While I was still to finish the course at NID, I won a scholarship and attended the prestigious Politechnico di Milano in Italy to pursue a Masters course in Strategic Design Management. Later, as part of a Diploma project at NID, I visited France to work with the famous German designer Burkhard Vogtherr in his studio, that’s when I got exposed to the European way of designing.
After completing my education I worked with organizations like Casa Décor, Mumbai (A joint venture of Poltrona Frau and the Tata Group) and Pacifica Group of Companies – Ahmedabad. It was during the course of my work I was able to understand the Indian mindset, the diversities of Indian culture and their varied requirements – I then decided to start my own enterprise.
Along with my batch mate and wife Sonal Kabra Kulkarni – an Apparel and Strategic designer from NID and Politechnico di Milano, Italy, I started Pomegranate Designs – a multi-disciplinary design studio dedicated to architecture, interiors and furniture design based in Baroda and Ahmedabad.
At Pomegranate Designs, we develop designs and related technologies that improve an environment; whether it’s an office, hospital, school, home, entire building, products, clothes or the world at large. We scuffle really hard to design and build a better world around our clients. Our vision is that all business operations should run in a way that is economically, socially and environmentally sustainable.
We get inspiration from everyday life. Be it good music, a piece of art, food, films, friends or anything that appeals to our senses. Travelling to different places rejuvenates and influences us the most.
Recently we finished the design phase of an interesting architectural project which is a 12,000 sq-ft ‘Activity building’ that includes a 5000 sq. ft. community hall, exhibition areas, gaming zones and other supporting amenities.
At Pomegranate Designs, we believe that a space becomes a personal attribute with unique furniture pieces. For the connoisseurs of fine living, who demand the very best Pomegranate Designs provides the finest pieces of furniture.
One such project is In-Line, an office furniture project developed with the famous furniture designer, Mr. Burkhard Vogtherr at his atelier in Mulhouse, France. The sleek and modern In-Line table system consists of an intelligently engineered aluminum die cast leg which can be connected in different configurations to form different products for office use. We have also designed Verve and Trigger, two different outdoor furniture collections for a leading furniture manufacturer of the country.
One of our star products in the furniture category is the Tumbler Chair. The inspiration for the Tumbler chair comes from the exotic handmade glasses from Italy. Tumbler leaves a strong impact with its size that is larger than life. The form of the chair is easy and comfortable that lets you curl in and connect with yourself.
Keeping in tune with the aspect of multi-functionality we have designed Carry on, an elegant and lightweight side table that is easy to carry around. With its removable platter and easy to hold grip, it transforms from a stylish table into a handy serving tray that is apt for a contemporary lifestyle. Available in three colours, the Carry on table is perfect for outdoor and indoor use.
Inspired by a Martini glass, the Martini barstool is feminine in character and modern in appearance. The base and the footrest of the barstool are made with brushed aluminum. Apart from product design we also handle interior and architectural projects.
A great interior space can have an extraordinary effect on our wellness and productivity. We use space, colour, materials, energy and light as tools to build healthy environments that enhance performance and psychological behavior. A 2000 sq ft office space in the plush corporate park of Ahmedabad is an example of the same.

Martini Barstool
The design of the barstool is inspired by a Martini glass- feminine in character and modern in appearance.
As a part of our architectural work, we are currently designing a township consisting of 600 villas and other amenities like a luxurious clubhouse, senior citizen’s park, swimming pool, tennis court, jogging track and children’s play area in the developing town of Dholera, Gujarat.
We are a young company with lots of fresh ideas. We love to design products and amenities, it’s a continuous challenge, but at the same time it allows us to express ourselves. Our dream is to grow and work with as many talented people as possible and create a one-stop solution for all architectural and interior design needs. We also aim to launch our in-house premium range of furniture products in the near future.
