Charm and sophistication, as easily defined by simplicity of design pose a risk of monotony too. How then did Kelly Hoppen achieve elegance and yet manage to include her ever intriguing signature elements in this beautiful villa in the south of France?
The interiors posed a challenge as the client wanted a very classical look and appeal. And thus we see neutral shades on the walls, furniture and linen. But every room has at least one break-away feature, in terms of line, shape and colour; nevertheless care has been taken that the touch is warm and subtle.
Resplendent and poised, this house has been styled to inspire admiration if not a little awe. The vintage furniture doesn’t intimidate and has a rather soft and cosy feel to it; owing to the undertone of a few brighter streaks of colour on the curtains or cushions or even the bedside glassware.
Vintage is something so grand that it’s hard to contain and tough to do justice to. But the key here has been to accommodate it with very measured other details; i.e, just the border of curtains in a different colour, or the hue of the fabric on the vintage chair.
The elegance and femininity of the vintage furniture provides an effervescent touch with its bright floral motifs. And prepare to be surprised if you have in mind something very demure. The glamorous wall décor in the bedrooms is a veritable treat.
The living area of the house too is very tastefully done. With cosy cushions and inviting seating areas it is not only what the family needs to enjoy the gorgeous moments of food and fun in, but the decor here also serves to complete the grandeur and the sheer beauty of the entire house. It enhances the living space and perfectly complements the splendour of nature that is so known for its inviting charm.
The living and dining areas are a utter delight. The idea of entertaining in style and keeping the ambience tasteful and restrained just adds up wonderfully. The bedrooms are simply dreamy; airy, well-lit, beaming and relaxed. This is where you let your hair down. And with the refreshing shades to wake up to every morning, the joy of living has just notched up a scale. These are beautiful contradictions of fresh and formal, elegant and relaxing, timeless beauty and flawless comfort.
Our homes are generally our little havens, our areas of repose. So it is very essential that they also reflect our ideas and personalities. In today’s world of mass produced furniture it is a challenge to incorporate something that has a signature style. This charming house provides a glimpse to a tranquillity that is rare to find and experience.
The extensive attention to details provides a particular character to every wall. The classical style also lays appropriate emphasis on the sizes and proportion. The simplest of ideas in the design has a lasting visual impact. The environment created in the room with the help of lighting and texture is also a contributing factor to the choice of furniture and furnishings used. The design pleases all the five senses and stimulates them with its essence.
Some of the individual features in the house have played a very crucial role. The windows are kept elementary in order to let the indoor and outdoor spaces merge freely. Intended use, durability, finish and appropriateness of style have a lot to do with the final result we see here.
The colours and the textures too have an important role to play; one of harmonising and one of highlighting just the right elements. The prominence and hierarchy of rooms is well appointed and with a minimum of effort. If there is a story to tell, it should be told with élan. That is what we see and that is what we feel here.
