In a desert in Southern Spain a novel solar power technology is literally blooming! Here an entire village’s electricity requirement is offset by a hi-tech device called the AORA Tulip System. This in essence makes use of gigantic 115-feet high towers which are shaped like huge tulips.
The bulbs present in the various flower towers heat up to over 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit due to the concentrated sun rays of the arid region. The resulting hot air is forced into a combustion chamber where it expands to power a turbine generator. An incredibly eco-friendly creation, this system eliminates the need for oil, salt or water.
Currently, the AORA Tulip System in Spain is able to supply enough power to 35 homes. Although only two test plants exist right now, the system could easily expand to other communities in need of alternative forms of energy if they receive more funding.
